Reading through Mindset,
I have noticed that the book presents a lot of ideas about failure. Depending
on the person, some people take failure and turn it into a learning experience
while others, shut it out, and make up their mind that they are not good at the
task at hand.
These ideas
tie into what we have been learning about the two types of mindsets. In chapter
six, the book mentions that some people let bad experiences scare them and
prevent them from moving forward. People who think like this would fall into
the fixed mindset category. I don’t think this is good mindset or quality to
have because in life, things aren’t always going to be easy and challenges are
often presented. Our minds are
constantly monitoring and interpreting. However, people with a fixed mindset,
put more extreme interpretation on bad things that happen, causing anger and
depression. Giving up should never be an option, and failure should never
change what you’re capable of.
Having a growth mindset is a lot
healthier and more realistic why to think. A person like this is always
monitoring what is going on, and learning how to make improvements based on
their failures. This enables you to get that feeling of satisfaction when you
succeed at something you have worked really hard for. This is the best way to
prove that you really can do anything if you set your mind to it.
In college, students will face many
obstacles and disappointments but how they react is what defines who they are
and how far they will go in life. The best advice I can give based on what I’ve
learned, my own an experience, and observations, is to stay positive and
believe in yourself. The possibilities of the things you are capable of are endless.
