Relieving Midterm Stress

Throughout this past week I have been feeling really stressed. Mostly because of midterms and also because of the on-going homework I have to complete on top of studying and work. Luckily, I have developed the technique of making a schedule, which has really helped me adjust, and fit everything in I need to do, in a timely fashion.
On my free time besides relaxing and hanging out with friends, I enjoy exercising, not only to stay fit, but also because it helps me to relax and get my mind off of my schoolwork. For me, the gym is a place I go where I can burn off some steam and regroup my thoughts. Besides just doing the regular exercises I enjoy doing some of the classes they offer such as, zumba, yoga, and pilates. Zumba, for example, is more of an upbeat fun class that you barely even notice your working out. Usually when I am more stressed out or tired after a long day, I attend a yoga or pilates class. This is a more relaxing class where you get to know your body and what your muscles are capable of.
On nicer days, I enjoy going for a run on the local boardwalk at walnut beach, in Milford. After I plug in my iPod I tune everything else out and focus on the music, atmosphere, and running. The music on my iPod helps to motivate me to keep going even if I’m getting tired.
I encourage all students to try exercising when they’re stressed out as a good way to help them relax. Not only will it calm you down and help you to stay in shape but, the feeling when you finish your exercise is rewarding in itself.
