What is college? To me, college is a lot more than just a
place where students go to further their education. College is a place where
you can express yourself. Let your opinions be known! Don’t be afraid to speak up! Stand out! Be that A student you’ve always wanted to be! Anything is
possible if you set your mind to it! Believe in yourself!
College is
a place where for the first time in your life, you are let go and on your
own. For some students, the transition
from high school to college may be hard. However, college is the tunnel between
high school and the real working world. You have to go though college to
prepare yourself with the background education and skills you need for your
future. Professors’ are not there to guide you every step of the way. It is
your responsibility to get your work done and learn to the best of your
ability. Without even realizing it you will begin to gain more and more
independence, and with independence, comes responsibility.
College
takes people out of their comfort zone and introduces them to a whole new way
of learning. Not just academic learning but also, teaches students how to be
independent, and learn important life skills by living on their own. This is
just one of the many college accomplishments.
So far, my personal experience at Southern Connecticut State University
has opened my eyes to how much there is to get out of college. Within the first
few days, I’ve learned how to become a critical thinker and I hope to apply
what I have learned in every paper I put my name on and for the rest of my
life.
Before
coming into college, I set goals for myself. Academically, my most important
goal is to try my best. By trying my best I mean, putting time and effort into
all my work to achieve good grades and make myself proud. Socially, my goal is
to get involved with the community and make friends along the way. Southern has so much to offer, as far as
clubs, organizations and activities. I would be crazy not to take advantage.
Personally, I’m going to try to balance my schoolwork, job, fitness, and social
life by improving my time management skills.
